Sherwood will have a rematch with Sandy in Friday's Class 6A state playoff opener

The Sherwood High School football team tuned up for the Class 6A state playoffs in impressive fashion.

The Bowmen, in their final game before jumping into postseason play, pulled away in the second half to get a 47-16 win over Century in a Pacific Conference finale played Friday at Sherwood High School.

With the loss, Century fell to 1-3 in conference play (3-6 overall), putting the Jaguars in a tie for third place in the final Pacific standings. Sherwood improved to 3-1 in conference games (4-5 overall), putting the Bowmen in a tie with Newberg for second place in the final Pacific standings.

Sherwood also advances to the Class 6A state playoffs. The Bowmen will host Sandy in a first-round postseason game Friday, starting at 7 p.m., at Sherwood High School.

Sherwood, in its regular-season finale, got its running game going in high gear, rushing for 387 yards on 48 carries as a team.

Senior running back Ian Stormont led the rushing attack, running for 151 yards and four touchdowns on 14 carries. Senior Ryan Scroggin added 94 yards and a score on just five carries. Sophomore Clay Peden added 36 yards and a touchdown on six carries. Senior Kaden Rhinehart also had a touchdown run.

For the Bowmen defense, senior Carter Atkins had a pair of quarterback sacks. Sophomore Ashton Sarono-Ramos also had a quarterback sack. Senior Colin Anderson and sophomore A.J. Olson each had an interception. Senior Jacob Reuter and junior Caleb Hagan each had a fumble recovery.

Sandy, the No. 5 out of the Mt. Hood Conference, brings an overall record of 5-4 into Friday's state playoff game. The Bowmen and Pioneers met earlier this season, with Sandy getting a 24-7 win in a season-opener played Aug. 31 at Sherwood High School.
