Sherwood boys go 1-2 at The Eight
The Sherwood High School boys basketball team got off to a strong start at the Les Schwab Invitational — The Eight, but the Bowmen came up short in their next two tourney contests.
Sherwood, after getting a 67-51 win over Westview, fell to Eastside Catholic, from Sammamish, Wash., and Silverton at the eight-team event held last Thursday through Saturday at Liberty High School.
The 1-2 tourney mark gives the Bowmen an overall season record of 8-3.
Sherwood started tourney play last Thursday with the victory over the Wildcats from the Metro League.
Sophomore guard Asher Krauel paced the Bowmen in that game with 20 points. Krauel sank three 3-point baskets while also going 7 for 7 from the foul line in the victory.
Junior post Blake Jensen came off the bench to add 13 points for the Bowmen. Senior guard Tyler Hix had 10 points and three assists. Junior guard Jamison Guerra had nine points, seven rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals.
Kobe Newton led Westview with 15 points.
In Friday's semifinals, Sherwood fell 71-58 to eventual tournament champion Eastside Catholic.
Hix led a balanced Bowmen scoring attack in that game with 12 points on a 4-for-8 shooting night from the field. Senior wing Braden Thorn had 10 points and six rebounds for Sherwood. Jensen also scored 10 points. Guerra had nine points, six rebounds and six assists.
Eastside's Nolan Hickman led all scorers with 19 points.
In Saturday's third-place contest, the Bowmen fell 69-51 to Silverton.
Guerra paced Sherwood in that contest with 14 points. He also had five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Hix scored 11 points, while Thorn and Jensen each had seven.
Silverton's Levi Nielsen led all scorers with 19 points.
The Bowmen will be back in action on Friday, when they host Mountainside in a non-league game starting at 5:30 p.m. at Sherwood High School.
