Tiger boys squad finish in third place, Wolves fifth at the Kelsey Sportsmanship race

The Tigers and Timberwolves had strong performances at the third-annual Kelsey Sportsmanship giant slalom race — the largest high school ski racing event in the United States — held Saturday at Mt. Hood Meadows' Stadium Race venue.

The Tigard boys took third place in the teams standings with a total time of 2 minutes, 14.09 seconds.

Senior Tyler Olson lead the way for the Tigers with a seventh-place finish and time of 43:54 seconds, the highest overall finish for Tigard for the day.

Luke Wargo finished 17th and Nathan Saier finished 19th, both contributing team times. Mitchell Atwood was not far behind with a 25th place finish in a field of 238 racers. Tigard boys finished ahead of all other Metro League team rival teams.

Junior Jeff Jost led the way for the Timberwolves with an 11th-place finish and time of 44:71 seconds, just missing a top-10 podium finish.

Seniors Talyor Jordan and Kai Depp contributed team times with 26th and 42nd-place finishes. Christian Jordan also contributed a team time with a 37th-place finish. The Tualatin boys finished third among Metro League teams.

The Tigard girls finished in eighth place with a team time of 2:25.53, beating all Metro League team rivals.

Junior Sarah Gentry led the way for the Tigers with an eighth-place podium finish and time of 45.12. Corin Hartnell finished 42nd and Emily Sverdrup finished 51st, both contributing to the team times. Megan Wargo also contributed a team time with a 37th-place finish for her second run in a field of 212 racers.

The Tualatin girls finished in 14th place with a total time of 2:40:49, placing third among Metro League girls squads. Senior Isabel Juliana led the way for Timberwolf girls with a 29th-place finish. Caylum Tippett and Megan Jost added 60th and 101st place finishes to contribute team times. Freshman Cassia Tippett finished 142nd and was the fourth-fastest Tualatin girl racer.

Austin Burr finished in 151st place with an individual time of 1:01.34 for Sherwood High School.

The Hood River Valley girls finished first overall with a team time of 2:10.21. Cailin Gahan from Wilsonville finished in first place for individual girls. The Sandy boys finished first overall with a team time of 2:12.62. Hugh Shanno from Oregon Episcopal School had the top time of 41.67 for individual boys finishing in first place.

Tualatin and Tigard teams are back in action for the start of Metro League competition Saturday at Timberline.
