The Bowmen boys improve to 4-0 in Pacific Conference play, while the Lady Bowmen are now 3-1

The Sherwood High School boys and girls basketball teams have a few things in common.

Both Bowmen squads defeated Newberg in Pacific Conference play on Friday, and both teams also sit atop the league standings.

The Sherwood boys scored a 63-47 win over the Tigers in a game played at Sherwood High School. With the win, the Bowmen improved to 4-0 in conference play (13-4 on the season), putting them a half game ahead of second-place Forest Grove, which is 4-1 in conference games.

Junior Blake Jensen paced Sherwood in the win with 22 points. Senior Tyler Hix sank five 3-point baskets and added 17 points. Junior guard Jamison Guerra scored 14.

The Sherwood girls got a 39-23 victory over Newberg in a game also played at Sherwood High School. With the win, the Lady Bowmen improved to 3-1 in Pacific Conference play (10-6 overall), putting them in a tie with Liberty for first place in the conference standings.

The Sherwood teams will be back in action Friday, when they play at Glencoe in a conference doubleheader. The Bowmen boys will play Glencoe at 5:45 p.m., with the Sherwood girls facing the Crimson Tide at 7:15 p.m.
