The Tigers crown four individual champions at Saturday's Joe Stewart Invitational

The Tigard High School wrestling team continued its strong showing in tournaments this season, as the Tigers battled their way to second place at the Joe Stewart Invitational, held Saturday at Rex Putnam High School.

Tigard took second place in the team standings at the 16-school event with a score of 156 points. Pendleton took the top spot with a score of 222.5.

The Tigers had four individual champions at the tournament. Tigard junior Cameron O'Connor took first place at 113 pounds. Senior Emilio Jimenez triumphed at 138. Senior Carter Dennis claimed the top spot at 220 and senior Javier Velasquez was the champ at 285.

Also for Tigard at the tournament, junior Zack Vorvick was third at 132, junior Jordy Mendez was fourth at 152, junior Johnny Nomani was fourth at 285, senior Cruz Hernandez was fifth at 120, Carsen Taylor was sixth at 120 and sophomore Nehemiah Demisse was sixth at 145.

The Tigers will be back in action on Thursday, when they travel to West Linn for a Three Rivers League dual match. Varsity bouts are set to start at 7 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, Tigard will compete at the Bill Geister Invitational, which will be held at Clackamas High School.
