Three-peats highlight 24th Beadnell Classic
TIGARD — It was a three-peat kind of day.
A pair of runners — Lily Herman and Remus Repcak — ran to victory for the third straight year, as they triumphed at the 24th-annual Beadnell Classic Invitational Mile, held May 30 in front of a large, loud crowd at Fowler Middle School.
The annual event features the top sixth, seventh and eighth-grade runners from Fowler, Twality and Hazelbrook middle schools. This year's event featured many strong performances, some back-and-forth battles and some wire-to-wire victories.
Repcak, from Hazelbrook, triumphed in this year's eighth-grade boys race in a time of 4 minutes, 55 seconds, which was the best mark for the day. Repcak won last year's seventh-grade boys race in a time of 5:02. He triumphed as a sixth-grader with a mark of 5:32.
In this year's eighth-grade race, Repcak led a Hazelbrook sweep of the top three spots. Aaron Lakeman was second in a time of 5:05 and Dylan Munley was third at 5:13.
Also competing in the eighth-grade boys race were Caleb Benjamin, Eli Chesler and Sawyer Wolf from Fowler, and Luke Jackson, Douglas Bailey and Henry Masters of Twality.
Herman, from Fowler, had a winning time of 5:30 in the eighth-grade girls race. Last year, Herman took first in the seventh-grade race in 5:44. She won as a sixth-grader in a time of 6:15.
Clair Roache from Hazelbrook finished in second place in this year's eighth-grade race in a time of 6:01. Mariana Flores of Twality was third at 6:04.
Also competing in the eighth-grade girls race were Ella White and Talitha Pierce of Twality and Tabi Searle and Izzy Kneeshaw of Hazelbrook.
In the seventh-grade race, Hazelbrook's Lauren Ayers not only topped all girls in the event, but she was also the overall winner of the race in a time of 5:30, which tied Herman for the fastest girls' time on the day.
Fowler's Caroline Johnson was second in the seventh-grade girls race in 5:43. Karys Gates of Hazelbrook was third at 5:48. Also running in the seventh-grade girls race were Sabine Kim and Summer Westerfield of Fowler, Kyra Bakke, Nora Smith and Maya Hawks of Twality and Amity Humphrey of Hazelbrook.
Fowler's Jake Feist won the seventh-grade boys race in a time of 5:35, edging Fowler's Sam Billings, who was second in 5:38, making it the closest race of the day.
Hazelbrook's Emiliano Gonzalez Estrada was a close third at 5:40. Also competing in the seventh-grade boys race were Noah Quesada of Fowler, Tate Woodward and Elijah Goiburn of Twality and Isaiah Trotter and Bo Dickson of Hazelbrook.
The sixth-grade boys race saw Fowler's Noah Saldana run to victory in a time of 5:29. Miles Ott of Twality was second at 5:45 and Omar Melendez, also from Twality, was third at 5:49.
Also competing in the sixth-grade boys race were Ethan Gateley, Hunter Westerfield and Cameron Goodell of Fowler, Trevin Laird of Twality and James Satterfield, Vincent Sadighi and Landon Patzke of Hazelbrook.
Chloe Thompson of Twality had a winning time of 5:57 in the sixth-grade girls race. Joanna Rodgers, also from Twality, was second with a mark of 6:04. Macy Marg of Hazelbrook was third with a time of 6:05.
Also competing in the sixth-grade girls race were Hailey Tyacke, Mackenzie Benjamin and Addie Herman of Fowler and Claire Masters of Twality.
