Tigard's Rivers named TRL Player of the Year
C.J. Rivers had a big season at the plate.
Rivers also had a big season on the mound.
And he's been honored for it.
Rivers, a Tigard High School senior, has been named the Three Rivers League Player of the Year for the 2019 baseball season.
Rivers, a pitcher/first baseman who will play college baseball at Lane Community College in Eugene, helped lead the Tigers to a second-place finish in the Three Rivers League standings at 12-6, as well as an overall mark of 18-11 and a spot in the second round of the Class 6A state playoffs.
For the season, Rivers hit for a .506 batting average, with 42 hits in 83 at-bats. He had seven doubles, four triples and seven home runs. He scored 26 runs and drove in 30.
In Three Rivers League play, Rivers hit for a .525 average, with 31 hits in 59 at-bats. He had three doubles, three triples and six home runs. He scored 18 runs and drove in 21,
For the season on the mound, Rivers had a 6-3 won-loss record with two saves. He had a 2.27 earned-run average, with 58 strikeouts and 23 walks in 58 2/3 innings worked. In Three Rivers League play, Rivers had a 5-0 record. He also had a 2.10 ERA, with 42 strikeouts and 17 walks in 40 innings pitched.
Rivers also was a first-team All-Three Rivers League selection as both a pitcher and first baseman.
Other Tigard players named to the all-league first team include senior outfielder Fletcher Ahl, who was a unanimous selection, junior shortstop Ethan Clark, senior second baseman Lance Kreisberg and senior designated hitter Cameron Laroche.
Tigard sophomore outfielder Josh Schleichardt was a second-team all-league selection. Kreisberg earned second-team accolades as a pitcher.
Tiger junior third baseman Mikey McNamee and senior pitcher Sam Gerkman were both honorable mention all-league picks.
For Tualatin, senior shortstop Kyle Dernedde was a unanimous All-Three Rivers League first-team selection. Timberwolf senior pitcher Cameron Atkinson also was a first-team pick.
Tualatin freshman outfielder Griffin Biggs was a second-team selection. Timberwolf senior first baseman Cameron Springer and junior catcher Blake Jackson were honorable mention picks.
Other All-Three Rivers League first-team selections include Lake Oswego senior outfielder Matthew Sibolsky, West Linn senior outfielder Cormac Duffy, Oregon City senior outfielder Michael Montoya, Canby junior infielder Cayden Delozier, West Linn senior infielder/pitcher Jonathon Kelly, Lakeridge sophomore infielder Cam Clayton, Lakeridge junior pitcher Cooper Justice, Lake Oswego senior catcher Gabe Deville, West Linn senior catcher J.J. Hoover and Lake Oswego senior utility player Alex Giroux.
Other all-league second-team picks include Lakeridge junior outfielder Spencer Santana, West Linn senior outfielder Garrett Wiancko, Oregon City sophomore infielder T.D. Davison, Lakeridge senior infielder Hayden Moore, West Linn senior infielder Matt Kurtin, Lake Oswego senior infielder Jackson Laurent, West Linn senior pitcher Caleb Franzen, Canby senior pitcher Sean Wiese, Lakeridge junior pitcher John Taylor, Oregon City junior catcher Ashton Stalheim, Lakeridge junior designated hitter Brian Hamlin, West Linn senior designated hitter Zach Bell and Lake Oswego junior first baseman Alex Sol.
Kelly was named the Three Rivers League Pitcher of the Year, West Linn's Joe Monahan was tabbed the Coach of the Year and Oregon City's Tyler Winkle was named the Manager of the Year.
