Kyle Dernedde, a 2019 Tualatin High School graduate, Sherwood grad Sage Dunaway and Tigard graduate C.J. Rivers all stepped up in a big way, when they concluded their high school baseball careers at the annual Freightliner Oregon All-Star Series, which was held June 22-23, at Goss Stadium on the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis.

The 2019 Oregon All-Star Series was a North vs. South battle of Oregon's top graduated senior baseball stars. The three local stars played for the North squad in the two-game series.

Dernedde, a shortstop, and Rivers, a first baseman, helped the North team get off to a fast start in the June 22 opening game of the series.

After the South took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Dernedde, batting second for the North, drew a walk in the bottom of the frame, putting runners on first and second with no outs. Rivers then belted a three-run home run to center field, giving the North a 3-1 lead at that point.

In that game, Dunaway, who played in the outfield for the North, went 1 for 3 at the plate, hitting a two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth inning, giving the North a 9-6 lead at that point. Dunaway would score later in the frame on a single by Grant Schoen, making the score 10-6.

Dernedde went 1 for 4 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Rivers went 1 for 4 with his three-run home run.

On June 23, the local trio helped the North get a 12-9 win over the South, evening the series at 1-1.

Dernedde had one of the big hits for the North in the victory, smacking a two-run single in the top of the eighth inning, giving the North a 12-4 lead at that point.

For the game, Dernedde went 1 for 1 at the plate with a walk and two RBIs. Rivers went 1 for 2 with a run scored and a stolen base, and Dunaway went 1 for 3 with an RBI. Rivers also pitched an inning for the North squad in the victory.
