The team, featuring players from Tigard and Tualatin, wins 12A title with 5-4 walk-off victory

But doing it in thrilling, walk-off style is really something.

And that's just what the Bat Company ages 12U fastpitch softball team did.

The Bat Company team, featuring players from Tigard and Tualatin, as well as other areas around the state, emerged victorious at the 12A State Tournament, held July 6-7 at Bob Artz Memorial Park in Springfield.

The Bat Company squad, which went 5-1 at the tournament, got a 5-4, eight-inning win over the Canby Rebels in the championship contest.

Shelby Bruney singled in Julia Reichlein from third base with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the walk-off winning run.

For the game, Bruney, from Warrenton, went 5 for 5 at the plate with a run scored and two RBIs.

Delaney Hoyle, from Tualatin, went 3 for 4 with a run scored. Rylee Guastad, from Tigard, drove in a run. Emily Kleps, from Tualatin, scored a run. Ariel Chanez, also from Tualatin, had a sacrifice bunt for the victors.

The Bat Company opened play at the double-elimination tournament on July 6 by scoring a 7-1 win over the Oregon Titans.

Hoyle picked up a complete-game pitching victory. She gave up one unearned run on four hits, while striking out five and walking none in seven innings of work.

Bruney went 3 for 3 at the plate with two runs scored. Grace Wilson, from Wilsonville, went 3 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Guastad went 1 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Later on July 6, the Bat Company posted a 7-4 win over the Silver Bullets. Chanez went 2 for 3 at the plate with two RBIs. Hoyle doubled, scored a run and drove in a run. Kleps scored a run and Guastad had a hit and two walks.

The Bat Company finished play on July 6 with a 6-5 loss to the Canby Rebels in the winners' bracket final. Maddie Holly, from Wilsonville, went 3 for 4 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs in that game. Hoyle went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Guastad went 2 for 4 with a stolen base and two runs scored. Chanez had a hit, two stolen bases and she scored a run.

The Bat Company bounced back on July 7 to get a 7-6 win over the Silver Bullets in the losers' bracket final.

Kleps had a double, a run scored and two RBIs in the victory. Guastad scored a run, while also having two stolen bases and two RBIs. Chanez had a hit and an RBI and Hoyle picked up a complete-game pitching victory.

That win led to a rematch with the Canby Rebels, where the Bat Company picked up a 10-2 victory.

Guastad went 3 for 4 with two runs scored in that game. Hoyle went 2 for 2 with a run scored and an RBI. Kleps scored two runs. Chanez drove in a run, and Holly went 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs.

That victory set up the winner-take-all final for the state championship, where the Bat Company got its walk-off win.

Other players for the Bat Company include Peyton Davis from Damascus, Lily Riley from Oregon City, Nayomi Holmstedt from Warrenton and Chloe Grimmer from Oregon City. Coaches for the team include Shelby Mauermann, Derek Hill, Alicia Loiler and Howard Hoyle.
