The Lady Bowmen are set to battle. They're ready to scrap.

And, they're hoping that competitive nature leads them to success in the 2019 season.

"We look to be competitive in every game," Sherwood coach Katie Hartman said. "Our strengths are our team energy and competitive nature. This team has a passionate and determined spirit. They are willing to battle and grind to achieve the goals they set."

The Lady Bowmen return some key players from last year's squad that finished second in the Pacific Conference standings at 5-1, while going 13-5 and reaching the quarterfinal round of the Class 6A state playoffs.

Among the returnees is senior forward Loma McNeese, who named the Pacific Conference Player of the Year last year as a junior.

"She's a gifted scorer and sets the tone for games," Hartman said. "She leads through her grit and determination."

"She's a fierce, yet patient, defender and vocal leader on the pitch," Hartman said.

Senior forward Alysia Alvarado was an all-conference second-team pick last year.

"She's a talented and crafty playmaker," Hartman said.

Junior defender Morgen Fried is another key returnee for the Lady Bowmen.

"She's a tireless tough defender who works hard on both ends of the field," Hartman said.

Other varsity returnees for Sherwood include junior midfielder Allison Alvarado, who was a second-team all-conference pick a year ago, junior goalkeeper Jadie Baldwin, senior defender Ava Boughey, sophomore goalkeeper Tali Kozma, junior midfielder Tori Mexicano, junior defender Kendall Mickelson, sophomore forward Ellie Schmidt and senior midfielder Lauren Swanson.

Newcomers to the Sherwood varsity include senior defender Isa Frost, sophomore midfielder Ella Kunert, sophomore midfielder Ella Lahart, sophomore defender Emmry Schrems, sophomore midfielder Gigi Silva, sophomore defender Lucy Smith, junior forward Joley Sproul, junior goalkeeper Sidney Sproul, freshman forward Ella Weathers and freshman midfielder Ava Weisenfluh.

"We graduated some key players and leaders from our team last season so it will be interesting to see who steps into the leadership roles," Hartman said.

As for the Pacific Conference this season, the Lady Bowmen are preparing for some strong competition.

"Every game is competitive in our league depending on who shows up to play," Hartman said. "We hope to challenge for one of the top spots in our league as well as make a run deep into playoffs."

The Lady Bowmen open their season on Sept. 3, when they travel to face Summit in a non-league game starting at 5 p.m.
