Tigard girls fall at West Salem in postseason tilt
The Tigard High School girls soccer team battled all season.
And the Tigers battled their way into the state playoffs. But that's where the battle came to an end.
Tigard saw its season conclude with a 4-0 loss to West Salem in a Class 6A state playoff first-round match played Nov. 2 at West Salem High School.
With the win, West Salem, the Mountain Valley Conference champion, and the No. 5 team in the final OSAA power rankings, improved to 12-0-3 on the season to that point. Tigard, the No. 8 team out of the Three Rivers League, and the No. 26 team in the power rankings, finished its season with a final overall record of 6-7-2.
West Salem senior forward Paige Alexander scored three goals for the Titans in the victory. Sophomore Maddy Endler had the other goal for West Salem.
For Tigard, senior Steffani Rodriguez helped create some scoring chances after moving to a forward spot for the second half. Tiger junior goalkeeper Sara Hawks also came up with some clutch saves.
For the season, Tigard junior forward Lydia Emory and freshman midfielder Jaiden Riodil were both All-Three Rivers League second-team selections. Senior midfielder Anette Hernandez Bran, senior defender Riley White and Hawks were all honorable-mention all-league picks.
The loss at West Salem marked the final high school match for Tigard seniors Rodriguez, Kristiana Saldana, Logan Kennedy, Katherine Cameron, White and Hernandez Bran.
