Tigard boys to host league-leading Lake Oswego, Tualatin teams to travel to Canby

And big games are set for tonight.

With about a week to go in Three Rivers League and Pacific Conference boys and girls basketball play teams are battling for playoff positioning, as well as league championships, in upcoming games, including tonight's contests.

One of the big games in Three Rivers League boys basketball play tonight will be at Tigard, where the Tigers host league-leading Lake Oswego in a game starting at 7 p.m.

Lake Oswego comes into the game in first place in the league standings at 9-0 (13-8 overall). Tigard, riding a four-game winning streak, is third in the TRL standings at 5-4 (15-6 overall). Lake Oswego won the teams' first meeting, 68-65, in a game played Jan. 28 at Lake Oswego High School.

The Tualatin boys will travel to Canby tonight for a game starting at 5:45 p.m. Canby is in fourth place in the league standings at 5-5 (11-11 overall). The Timberwolves are in fifth place in the standings at 4-5 (10-11 overall). Tualatin won the teams' first game, 58-47.

Also in Three Rivers League boys play tonight, West Linn (8-2, 15-7) plays at Oregon City (2-7, 11-10) at 7:15 p.m.

In Three Rivers League girls play tonight, Tualatin and Canby, who are tied for fourth place in the league standings, meet in a game starting at 7:15 p.m. at Canby High School. The Timberwolves, who are 15-6 on the season, downed the Cougars (12-8 overall), 45-39, in the teams' first game this season.

The Tigard girls, who are tied with Lakeridge for sixth place in the league standings at 3-8 (4-17 overall), will play at Lake Oswego (0-11, 3-18) at 7 p.m.

Elsewhere in TRL play tonight, first place West Linn (10-1, 16-5) will play at second-place Oregon City (9-2, 17-4) at 5:45 p.m. Lakeridge (3-8, 11-10) will host St. Mary's Academy (7-4, 15-7) at 7 p.m.

In Pacific Conference play, the Sherwood boys can wrap up sole possession of the conference championship with a win tonight against Century in a game starting at 5:45 p.m. at Sherwood High School. The Bowmen come into the game at 10-0 in conference play (16-6 overall). Century is in third place in the conference standings at 6-4 (11-11 overall). Sherwood won the teams' first meeting, 85-61.

In other Pacific Conference boys games tonight, Newberg (7-2, 13-8) plays at Liberty (4-5, 10-11) at 5:45 p.m., and Glencoe (1-8, 5-16) will travel to McMinnville (0-9, 2-18) for a 5:45 p.m. game.

The Sherwood girls team will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak when it hosts Century at 7:15 p.m. The Bowmen are in fourth place in the conference standings at 5-5 (11-11 overall). Century is in seventh place at 1-9 (5-17 overall). Sherwood won the teams' first meeting, 42-29.

In other Pacific Conference girls games tonight, league-leading Liberty (9-0, 18-3) will host Newberg (2-7, 12-9) at 7:15 p.m., and McMinnville (7-2, 14-7) will be home to face Glencoe (2-7, 6-14)at 7:15 p.m.
