Jamison Guerra, Drew Carter joined on all-state list by Sherwood's Blake Jensen

PMG PHOTO: MILES VANCE - Tigard junior Drew Carter won a berth on the Class 6A all-state first team after earlier being named Three Rivers League Player of the Year. The Tigard and Sherwood boys basketball teams were two of the state's best in 2019-20.

Why? Easy — because they had some of the state's best players.

Three of those stars were recently honored with berths on Class 6A all-state teams, with Tigard's Drew Carter and Sherwood's Jamison Guerra named to the first team, while Sherwood's Blake Jensen won a spot on the all-state honorable mention team.

Carter, a 6-foot-3 junior wing who was previously named Three Rivers League Player of the Year, earned his first-team spot by averaging 24.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists a game, in addition to sporting a 3.8 grade-point average. He led the young Tiger squad to an overall record of 16-10 and a berth in the second round of the Class 6A state playoffs.

"Drew is obviously a great player but what I'm most proud of is that he's an even better person," said Tigard boys basketball coach Shawn Alderman. "A lot of people get to see his talents on the football field and basketball court, but I'm blessed to see, on a daily basis, his talents in our classrooms, hallways, and in our community."

For Sherwood, Guerra — a 5-11 senior guard/wing — earned his first-team spot by averaging 12.7 points, 5.8 assists (thought to lead all Class 6A players), 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game.

Along with Jensen — a 6-6 senior post/wing — Guerra helped lead the Bowmen to a Pacific Conference championship, a 19-7 overall record and a berth in the second round of the Class 6A state playoffs.

"Jamison will graduate as one of the most decorated basketball players in Sherwood history, and without a doubt, one of, if not the best player to ever play for the Bowmen," said Sherwood coach Rahim Tufts. "He had a phenomenal senior season … he was our leader, our coach on the floor and our playmaker."

Jefferson junior Nate Rawlins-Kibonge was named Class 6A Player of the Year while Barlow's Tom Johnson was named Coach of the Year.
