Tualatin's Caleb and Aaron Lakeman place one-two at Three Rivers League Championships
The Three Rivers League put its best cross country runners to the test in their district championships Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Oregon City High School, and — despite the cool and wet weather — they were up for it.
Lakeridge won the girls competition, finishing with 56 points. Two Pacers placed in the top four, and five in the top 20.
Lake Oswego was second with 80 points. The Lakers were paced by individual winner junior Kate Peters (17:12.36) and second-place finisher freshman Ana Peters (18:26.61).
Tigard finished third with 83 points. The Tigers were led by fifth-place finisher Sabine Kim (19:18.34) and sixth-place finisher Lillian Herman (19:41.73).
Tualatin (97) was fourth, followed by Oregon City (107), West Linn (108), St. Mary's Academy (108) and Canby (242).
Other Tigard finishers included: Chloe Thompson (20:43.44), Haley Cabrera (21:21.37), Caroline Johnson (21:35.04), Mercedes Harms (22:05.67) and Summer Schroeder (22:49.37).
Tualatin finishers included: Mahathi Sridhar (20:05.23), Karys Gates (20:22.13), Naiya Gates (20:50.13), Claire Roach (21:23.69), Abigail Katsuda (21:37.39) and Talitha Pierce (23:34.64).
On the boys side, Tualatin's Caleb Lakeman (15:46.64) and his brother Aaron (16:10.09) placed No. 1 and No. 2 individually, followed by third-place finisher Leo Cook (16:36.86) from Lake Oswego.
Caleb Lakeman has big aspirations, including raising the trophy at the OSAA state cross country championships Nov. 6, but that didn't take away from what was another nice feather in his cap, along with a fun and memorable experience with his brother.
"It meant a lot to be side-by-side with my brother and to have us go one-two in the district meet just displays all the hard work we've put in," Lakeman said. "It was super-fun, and I'm grateful for the opportunities that have come my way this year."
In the boys competition, Lakeridge placed first with 48 points, while Tualatin (73) was second, Canby (82) third, followed by West Linn (110), Lake Oswego (122), Tigard (123) and Oregon City (129).
Besides Caleb and Aaron Lakeman, other Timberwolves finishers included: Cole Noretto (17:23.63), Dean Horton (17:59.38), Jonah Beddes (18:16.30), Nathan Ruybalid (18:25.11) and Timothy Parsons (19:06.71).
Tigard finishers included: Sam Fitzgerald (17:50.19), Zachary Benedetti (17:55.07), Eli Chesler (17:58.91), Dylan Liu (18:06.05), Douglas Ashley (18:15.94), Jack Mclean (18:20.11) and Tathan Woodward (19:00.54).
