Cheering them on: THS students congratulate softball team winners
Students at Tigard High School lined the halls of the school Wednesday morning to pay tribute to the girls softball team who beat Oregon City Tuesday to clinch the state championship title.
The team won its first-place trophy after pitcher Makenna Reid struck out 21 batters, a state championship game record, at Jane Sanders Stadium in Eugene.
In fact, Reid had 438 strikeouts in 199 innings this season, making her the No. 2 all-time leader in the state, just behind Hood River Valley's Crystal Draper. Draper's record was 449 strikeouts, set in 1997 .
Tigard was 29-3 overall this season.
