The flu and you.
The current flu season has adversely affected millions of Americans, in Oregon especially. The Oregon Health Authority recently reclassified current Oregon flu activity from moderate to high.
Even if you have recovered from the flu, you are still susceptible to another strain. Currently, there are four strains.
Many residents are feeling the effects-sore throat, cough, fever, body aches, chills, stomach troubles, and headache. And while most people feel better within a week, the flu is dangerous to seniors over 65 years old who are at an increased risk of developing pneumonia.
This flu season has been overwhelming with documented flu cases widespread in 49 states. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) 5-20% of Americans become infected with influenza each year. More than 200,000 people infected with influenza will require hospitalization.
