Country Meadows Village is hosting a grand opening of a new wellness spa this weekend, which is intended to serve the greater community as well as its residents.

According to Laisha Kneuven, Country Meadows community relations director, the idea behind the spa is to provide a site where independent practitioners can meet with clients and offer services.

The service providers partner with Country Meadows, but are not employed by the retirement village; rather, each one operates their own practice in town.

“They each own their own therapeutic practices and businesses, and they’re all certified and licensed in their professions,” Kneuven said. “We’ve made this space available, and they want to utilize our space for offering services to our residents and the community at large.”

Country Meadows is promoting the new spa with a grand opening starting at 2 p.m. Saturday. The event will include live entertainment by 2 Sisters and a Mr., a band specializing in ‘40s “boogie-woogie” music, as well as door prizes, wine and hors d’ouevres.

To gauge interest in such a spa, Kneuven said Country Meadows did a trial run of sorts in a different part of the facility last month.

“We did a pilot to see if there would be interest, and there definitely is,” she said.

She said the idea of the spa being open to the general public as well as residents fits the overall mission of the retirement village.

“The whole philosophy of Country Meadows is how we can be a service to community at large,” she said. “Our hair salon is open to the public, as are our events, like our annual Life Line Screenings.”

The spa will feature the services of aesthetician Gannette Bell, licensed massage therapist Ayron Haley, chiropractic doctor Timothy Driscoll and physical therapist Kris McVay.
