Two teenage girls are injured after being struck by a car on N. Boones Ferry Road Thursday night

A car accident in Woodburn left two pedestrians injured last night.

The pedestrians were two teenage girls, ages 13 and 16. They were hit at the intersection of N. Boones Ferry Road and Tukwila Drive while walking home from an event at Woodburn High School.

One of the victims was critically injured, but she is in stable condition. The condition of the second girl is unknown at this time.

The driver, Patrick Thomas, said he was traveling south on N. Boones Ferry Road behind a large pickup truck when the truck turned right (westbound) onto Constitution Avenue. Thomas said he continued south after the truck turned and was startled when his vehicle made impact with the girls.

Both victims were in a marked crosswalk when the vehicle hit them. Thomas immediately called 911 and cooperated with police, according to a Woodburn Police Department news release.

The girls were walking across the intersection (east to west) when they were struck by the vehicle, according to witnesses.

Police issued a citation to Thomas for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
