GK Machine hosting Manufacturing Day open house for students
In celebration of Manufacturing Day 2017, GK Machine in Donald will open its doors on Friday October 6, 2017 to more than 100 students from surrounding high schools and community colleges as part of an effort to change students' perceptions about today's manufacturing environment and draw attention to the outstanding opportunities that a career in manufacturing can provide.
Planned activities include guided tours of GK Machine's state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, the opportunity to meet directly with engineers, machinists, programmers, fabricators and others who help design and create custom equipment.
Manufacturing Day is an annual national event executed at the local level. It's supported by thousands of manufacturers as they host students, teachers, parents, job seekers and other local community members at open houses, plant tours and presentations designed to showcase modern manufacturing technology and careers.
"There is an increasing demand for highly skilled professionals in the manufacturing sector who can design, program and operate technology," said Gary Grossen, CEO of GK Machine. "The average age of a manufacturing employee is 56, and between now and 2020 there will be an unprecedented shortage of skilled workers in the manufacturing industry."
GK Machine produces agricultural equipment, manufactured equipment, machined parts, fabricated parts, finishing services and greenhouse products, while providing repair and part services to Oregon farmers.
GK Machine designs, engineers and fabricates parts, engines and equipment and machinery for the various industries around the world; agriculture, transportation, construction and industrial manufacturers.
