County adds patrols for holiday
The Marion County Sheriff's Office is adding extra DUII patrols to roadways over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
From Nov. 23-26, deputies will be working extra hours to detect and arrest intoxicated drivers, enhancing the safety of resident and vacationing motorists.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in 2015 (from 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, to 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30), there were 301 passenger vehicle occupants killed in traffic crashes across the nation.
Marion County Sheriff's Office urges anyone who is planning to celebrate the holiday weekend at a football game or over a holiday dinner to have a plan to get home safely.
