North Marion high school students led a fundraising campaign that raised more than $800 for Love Santa, Inc.

Melinda Chappell, a senior at North Marion High School, led the fundraising effort, which was called Pennies for Presents. The campaign, supported by the Associated Student Body of North Marion, raised money for the local nonprofit that gives food and presents to families in need during the Christmas season.

The students held fundraising contests at school, collected donations at various school games and events, and even went caroling through Hubbard to collect donations.

The students raised $875.64 over several weeks, presenting the donation to Love Santa on Jan. 5.

"I am extremely impressed by the selfless efforts of these students," wrote Robert Prinslow, president of Love Santa, in a press release. "They chose to donate their time to raise funds for Love Santa, Inc. without knowing the families being served. I am honored and humbled by the work of these wonderful students!"
