Woodburn School District and Woodburn police will host forum at 6:30 p.m. March 19

After a recent social media threat against local schools, the Woodburn School District, in conjunction with Woodburn Police Department, is hosting a community forum to provide the public with information on procedures and to also get feedback on how to do things better.

The forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 19 in the Woodburn High School lectorium, 1785 N. Front St., Woodburn.

All members of the community are invited and encouraged to attend.

Administrators and the Woodburn Police Department will debrief with community members about recent copycat threats facing public schools across the country. They will discuss what safety measures are in place for students and staff, and current protocols for responding to these threats.

Police and school administrators also are looking for input from community members as to how to improve communication during such incidents.

"We're reaching out to our community to collaborate on a solution," Superintendent Chuck Ransom said in a press release. "We all have the same goal of keeping students and staff safe, but what can we do better?"

Woodburn and Gervais school districts were victims to a social media threat Feb. 23 that was determined to be a hoax. The alleged perpetrator, a 17-year-old Woodburn student who lives in Gervais, was arrested the same day. Though school was in session as normal that day, more than half of the Woodburn district's student body left early, due to fears from the recent school shooting in Florida.
