Workshop on suicide intervention will be at 6 p.m. April 18 in the high school library

North Marion School District will host a suicide training for parents from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 18 in the North Marion High School library.

Growing up in today's world can be hard work for students. Sadly, parents are often unaware of how deeply someone may be struggling to manage their emotional pain until it is too late. The news is full of stories where young people have tried, or been successful in taking their own lives. The North Marion community experienced the tragic loss of a student to suicide earlier this year.

Parents have an important role in helping their children handle the stresses of everyday life in positive, healthy ways. The North Marion School District sees this as an opportunity to connect and partner with parents to help keep all students healthy and safe.

The suicide prevention training next Wednesday will feature presenter Susan McLauchlin, Suicide Prevention Coordinator, from the Marion County Health Department.

This training is designed to save lives by teaching the early warning signs of suicide and offering hope toward a positive intervention that prevents suicide.

Dinner and child care will be provided. Interpreters will also be available.
