Legislative education meeting moved to French Prairie Middle School
The site of Thursday's public hearing of the Legislature's Joint Committee on Student Success has been moved to the French Prairie Middle School Gym.
The hearing will offer Mid-Valley parents a chance to shape the future of K-12 schools with testimony before the committee during the 7-9 p.m. hearing.
It will be the fifth hearing on the committee's statewide tour to explore the best practices employed in Oregon's most successful schools, and address the gaps that are limiting student success in other schools. French Prairie Middle School is located at 1025 Boones Ferry Road in Woodburn.
The hearing will be the final event on the 14-member committee's agenda Thursday. The committee will begin the day with tours of the Gervais Pre-K and Career Technology Education programs; Woodburn High School; and Heritage Elementary School. After a lunch meeting with the Woodburn School District leadership team, committee members will hear directly from students in a 90-minute listening session. The committee will then host a round-table discussion with area education and community leaders before the public hearing.
Legislative leadership created the special committee to develop a plan to improve student success, including a budget proposal that ensures every student in Oregon, regardless of where they go to school, will have the opportunity to achieve success.
