New officers Brendan Darby and Darlyn Chester will now spend about a week with Woodburn training officers before heading off to 16 weeks at the police academy in Salem.

Ferraris said he hopes to hire up to three more officers in the coming weeks, which will bring his department to full staff for the first time in his two and a half years as Woodburn police chief.
