The annual Aurora Colony Days celebration will feature a run, parade, food, music and much more

Big Night Out will be the musical guest on Saturday night to wrap up the day's events at Aurora Colony Days. Music, food and plenty of fun are once again going to make their presences felt Aug. 10-12 at the Aurora Colony Days celebration.

While several streets will be lined with vendors, and the antique stores will be open for visitors' perusal, the action gets started Saturday with the annual parade through town.

Here's a look at what's going on.

Colony Days Parade:

The 2018 Aurora Colony Days parade will be "Back to the Park" which flows with the weekend theme of "Growing our Community." The parade gets underway at 11 a.m. with floats, classic cars, bands, horses, community groups, local merchants, honored citizens, veterans and public service vehicles moving along the more than mile-long parade route.

• Drop off your Entry Form to the City Hall by Wednesday, Aug. 8.

• Check-in will be between 8:30 and 10 a.m. on the Main Street side of the park at Bob's Avenue.

Colony Music

As always, the Aurora Concerts in the Park series will finish on Saturday night of Aurora Colony Days at the Aurora City Park amphitheater. This year, Big Night Out will conclude the series. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Big Night Out: Saturday, Aug. 11, 7 to 10 p.m. -- Big Night Out is a twelve-piece rock, pop, and funk cover band located in Portland,. In addition to performing '60s, Motown, '70s, and '80s solid-gold rock and roll, the band also runs a number of contemporary pop hit's. Classic songs like Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama," all the way to current hit's by Grammy Award winning artists like Christina Aguilera, Pink, Jennifer Lopez and Lady GaGa.

The band features a four-piece horn section, three female and two male vocalists who all sing lead on different tunes.

Free Museum Admission

Saturday, Aug. 11, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

At the Old Aurora Colony Museum

As part of Aurora Colony Days, the Old Aurora Colony Museum will offer free admission on Saturday, Aug. 11, with activities for the family.

The first 50 children to arrive at the shed can make a free wooden Colony tote box, while they last. There will be grain to grind, games to play indoors and out, fun activities in the courtyard, and interesting sights to see.

Family Friendly Beer Garden

Friday, Aug. 10, 5 to 11 p.m.

At the Octagon

Enjoy beer and brats in the Aurora Colony Beer Garden to kick off Aurora Colony Days. Old Aurora's famous German hospitality will live again in our family-friendly Beer Garden at the picturesque Octagon Building, Friday night only. Sip a brew, enjoy brats and curly fries from Ebner's, and listen to live music. There'll be ice cream too, and beverages for kids of all ages.

Car Show

Join Aurora Colony Days for its second annual car show on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 12:30 to 5 p.m. at Aurora City Park. Take a stroll at this family event filled with cool cars, good music and great food.

Book Sale

The North Marion Community Library will hold a book sale Thursday thru Saturday, Aug. 10-12.

The annual book sale during Aurora Colony Days will be at Main Street and Highway 99E, next to the American Legion Hall, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. all three days.

There will be books for all ages, both fiction and non-fiction. All are invited to browse and buy a bag or boxful of books to benefit the free local library, serving the communities of North Marion County, and currently housed in the basement of the Aurora Presbyterian Church, 21553 Liberty Street NE, Aurora.
