Woodburn School Board seeks applicants for vacancy
The Woodburn School District will begin accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the school board. Applications are due on Nov. 30.
Applicants are asked to be available for an interview on Dec. 4 at the regular school board meeting.
The candidate appointed to fill the vacant seat will need to run for election in May 2019 to fill out the remaining two years of the Position 2 term.
There are a few requirements for applicants: They must have lived in the district at least 12 months prior to appointment; not be an officer or employee of the district; and be a registered voter in the school district.
Gustavo Gutierrez-Gomez, who has served on the Woodburn School Board since March 2015, resigned at the beginning of October, citing family and personal reasons.
"The school district and school board are appreciative of his service and dedication to our students and look forward to his continued involvement in the Woodburn community," a press release from the district stated.
The Woodburn School Board meets twice a month, with an additional two meetings each May for annual budget review.
There are additional service opportunities within the school district. Currently there are vacancies on the Bond Advisory & Accountability Committee (quarterly meetings) and the Budget Committee (three or four meetings in April and May), as well.
