Aurora man arrested following crash involving school bus
Police arrested an Aurora man after he allegedly caused a crash involving a school bus full of children then fled the scene.
Around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, Victor Guevara, 40, of Aurora was reportedly driving eastbound on Ehlen Road. He reportedly made a lefthand turn in front of a Peterbilt truck, driven by Timothy Brown, 49, of Sheridan, traveling in the opposite direction. Brown was unable to slow down in time and hit Guevara's SUV at around 55 mph. The impact caused the SUV to spin and hit the front left side of a school bus that was sitting at a stop sign on nearby Butteville Road. The SUV then left the scene.
There were 20 children on board the bus. Four of the children, as well as the driver, Robin Martin, 48, of Canby, reported some pain, but no other injuries were reported. Another school bus arrived on scene to take the children to school. No one was taken to the hospital.
After gleaning information on the hit-and-run driver from a witness, Marion County deputies found fresh tire tracks on a gravel driveway a short distance away. They located Guevara at the residence and he was taken into custody without incident.
Guevara was booked in Marion County Jail and charged with vehicle hit and run - property and vehicle hit and run - injury. His bail is set at $15,000.
