North Marion Primary School grant helps English language learners
North Marion Primary School has received a $5,000 grant to support language development in the 2018-19 school year.
The one-year grant from Education First supports social emotional learning and language development, according to Principal Andy Kronser. The target audience for this grant is about 20 English language learner students in first and second grade who are part of the early morning English language development class.
Thanks to the grant, teacher Irma Patton is able to bring in three high school students each trimester to work with the class.
"It's an opportunity for kids who are looking to become teachers," Superintendent Ginger Redlinger said.
The class, which started Sept. 24, takes place before school on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
