The 2019 Distinguished Service Alma Awards will be Friday, March 8, 2019 at Metropolis in downtown Woodburn

Nominations for the 2019 Distinguished Service Alma Awards are now being solicited from the public.

This year the DSA Award event has a new addition to its title, incorporating the Spanish word "alma" to reflect a connection to the heart or soul of the community's Latinx roots, according to Stuart Rodgers, executive director of the Woodburn Area Chamber of Commerce, which puts on the DSA Awards banquet and nomination process.

"We're preparing to celebrate the 68th year of those whose service makes a positive impact and leaves a legacy in our community," Rodgers said in a press release.

A chamber nomination committee will select candidates for Junior First Citizen, Senior First Citizen, Outstanding Youth and Outstanding Educator awards, which represent those who have made contributions to the community by:

• Performing outstanding volunteer community service over several years

• Participating in more than one major community project or committee

• Giving time outside of business, profession or vocation

• Providing recognized leadership in community affairs.

Woodburn area businesses, organizations and schools (teachers, support staff and administrators) are all welcome to participate.

Submit nominations at https://woodburnchamber.org/distinguished-service-alma-awards/.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2019.

The DSA Awards banquet will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2019, at the Metropolis event venue in downtown Woodburn.

Tickets for the banquet will also be available on the chamber website soon.
