A Woodburn man who was reported as missing by his son on Friday, Feb. 8, died in a car crash

A Woodburn man who was reported missing on Friday succumbed to injuries from a vehicular crash, according to police.

Woodburn Police put out an alert that Byron Kent Salsby, 74, was reported missing by his son. Salsby was home when his son left for work at around 7:30 a.m., but neither he nor his car were at the home when his son returned at 5:45 p.m.

Salsby's son told officers that his father gets confused easily, should not be driving at night, and that he has early onset dementia and diabetes that requires medication. He had only lived in the area since November.

Police searched the neighborhood and other areas Salsby frequented in the city, but they could not locate him or his vehicle.

At 8:30 p.m. Friday, Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a 2-vehicle accident. Deputies identified Salsby. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"We express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Salsby for their loss," Woodburn Police spokesman Tommy Moore said.
