Elmer's raises $1,000 in scholarship money
The Woodburn branch of Elmer's Restaurants took part in a three-month fundraising campaign. The effort helped raise more than $40,000 that was used for seven scholarships for the family members of fallen and disabled veterans in the Pacific Northwest.
The Woodburn location brought in $1,000 by donating $1 each from select meals to help fund the Folds of Honor Foundation, which began in 2007 and has awarded nearly 20,0000 educational scholarships since.
The Oklahoma-based nonprofit seeks to empower military families by providing educational scholarships and other assistance for the children and spouses of military service members killed or disabled in action.
"This donation is our way of saying thank you to our veterans and their families and honoring their sacrifices made for our freedom," said Jerry Scott, Elmer's Restaurants Inc. president and CEO. "We will continue supporting the Folds of Honor Foundation, our service members and their families in 2019 and beyond."
