Submit applications for Fiesta Court 2019
The 2019 Fiesta Mexicana Court program is accepting applications to be a part of this year's 56th annual event.
The Fiesta Mexicana Court has represented the festival and Woodburn for more than half a century, providing an opportunity for young women from the community to develop their leadership, communication and team-building skills while serving as youth ambassadors to Woodburn.
Each participant is required to complete leadership training, which includes mentoring opportunities, preparation in public speaking, interviewing and professional dress.
Participants commit a minimum of 16 hours of community service at a local nonprofit organization of their choosing, earning points based on their service hours and participation in events and activities.
Court members compete for a college scholarship provided by Chemeketa Community College, with a winner crowned at the coronation event on the first day of this year's Fiesta Mexican on Friday, Aug. 2, at Legion Park in Woodburn.
Prospective candidates must be students enrolled at Woodburn, Gervais or North Marion high schools, or be a Woodburn resident who is home-schooled or attending a high school equivalent institution or charter school.
They must be a junior or graduating senior during the 2018-19 school year, possess a 2.5 GPA or better and be bilingual in English and Spanish.
