Train traffic has abated this week as Union Pacific workers tend to the crossing at Lincoln and Front streets in Woodburn

PMG PHOTO: JUSTIN MUCH - Union Pacific crews work on the tracks near Lincoln Street in downtown WoodburnLincoln Street at Front Street in Woodburn has been closed since Tuesday as Union Pacific Railroad crews work on the tracks.

"Our maintenance personnel are replacing the crossing pad at that crossing," UPR spokesman Tim McMahan said. "They are continuing to work on it today, and the street is scheduled to reopen sometime tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon, April 18."

The work coincides with a number of other street/intersection closers in downtown Woodburn as work is underway with the First Street Improvement projects. The other closures are primarily at the south end of downtown, from Cleveland through Garfield streets.

The rail crossing work has meant less train traffic this week.

"Trains cannot operate through that crossing when they're working. There's about 18 trains through that crossing per 24-hour day," McMahan added.
