The freeway between Woodburn and Salem is scheduled for significant road work this construction season, and Oregon Department of Transportation officials urge motorists recognize and adjust to it.
ODOT officials scheduled work on I-5 bridges to begin Monday, May 13, calling for nightly lane closures between 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. I-5 northbound paving work between Brooks and Woodburn is scheduled to begin Sunday, May 19, with lane closures beginning as early as 7 p.m. and continuing as late as 9 a.m., Sunday through Friday.
The speed limit through the construction zone is 50 mph for work-zone safety purposes. Oregon State Police will monitor traffic and speeds.
Work over the 12-mile stretch should take place primarily at night, and motorists can expect delays of up to 30 minutes. Motorists are urged to check real-time travel conditions in advance during construction season.
This portion of I-5 was last paved 11 years ago. ODOT engineers said the stretch is deteriorating. The work is expected to be completed by October, and it should leave a smoother, quieter drive for travelers once completed.
