Event schedule for the Woodburn area and surrounding north Marion County for the week of June 5-12 and beyond

THIS WEEK

Kids Art Camp — 1-3 p.m. Tuesdays, June 18, 25, July 2, and 9. Young artists ages 7 and up are invited to join Artist Ellen Weinert at the Woodburn Art Center to learn art skills and crafting techniques with wet and dry media in this four week Kids Art Camp. The $50 fee (grant subsidy of $20) includes all instruction, materials, and snack. The instructor must have eight students registered for class to be held.

Children's Clay Camp — 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesdays, June 25, July 2 and July 9. Join clay artist, Ellen Weinert, if you are ages 7-12, to learn pinch and coil building with clay to create a covered bowl and a set of two mugs at the Woodburn Art Center. The fee will be $60 plus a $15 materials fee. Classes need a minimum of three students and a maximum of eight to be held.

Watercolor Wednesdays — 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, June 5. Join this continuing class at the Woodburn Art Center with artist/instructor, Beth Harrison, designed for watercolor painters of all levels. The class meets the first and third Wednesday with instruction for beginners, advice for the more experienced and an encouraging supportive atmosphere for all. The cost is $20 per class. Preregistration for the month is required. If you have supplies, bring them or purchase in Paint Box Store.

Tech Triage — 2-3 p.m. Thursday, June 6. Curious about Libby, OverDrive's new app for smartphones and tablets? Join the Woodburn Public Library at our same drop-in tech help program with a new name for help with library e-books and any other questions. Please come with any questions about your phone, tablet, e-reader, or other device. For best results, please bring your device with you. This event takes place in the library's conference room.

Oil Painting Classes — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, June 7. Judy Stubb, certified Bob Ross instructor, will be your oil painting guide/instructor during scheduled oil painting sessions at the Woodburn Art Center. Judy will lead experienced and inexperienced artists to complete an oil painting called "Arizona Morning." The cost of $60 includes all instruction and supplies. Bring lunch or a snack. Other summer sessions include: June 15: "Magnolia Blossoms;" July 12: "Clear Montana Skies;" July 20: "Crater Lake;" Aug. 2: "Gladiolas;" and Aug.17: "After the Rain."

Relay 4 Life Charity Yard Sale — 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8. Woodburn Relay 4 Life will host a charity yard sale at the Do It Best Distribution Center at 333 South Woodland Drive In Woodburn. The sale will feature tools, fans, air conditioners, plumbing, light fixtures and more, helping to raise close to $20,000 annually for Do It Best Woodburn in support of the American Cancer Society. Photography Art Show — Noon to 3 p.m. June 8. The Woodburn Art Center will feature local photographers from the Salem Digital Photography Group. There will be an open reception with light refreshments and snacks. The Art Show features framed photographs for sale throughout the month of June. The Woodburn Art Center is located at 2551 N. Boones Ferry Rd. in Woodburn.

Tactile Teen Tuesday — 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, June 11. Join us at the Woodburn Public Library for fun events on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Snacks provided. This week's theme will be: Crafternoon!

COMING UP

Felting Classes — 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, June 12. All levels are welcome to join Pamela Miller at the Woodburn Art Center in this two-hour felting workshop, during which you will learn wet felted single resist. Class fee is $15 for instruction, with a materials fee to instructor. Wednesday, July 10, will be a Nuno Felting project and Wednesday, Aug. 14, will be a Wet Felted bangle bracelet.

Mixed Media Workshop — 1-3 p.m. Thursday, June 13. Stretch your creativity and art skills to new levels in mixed media workshops with award winning artist, Linda Chatfield at the Woodburn Art Center. Workshop cost $20, focusing on landscape photos and interpret to paper this week. Other summer sessions include: June 27: More landscape photos; July 18: Botanicals; Aug. 1: Botanicals; Aug. 15: Plein Aire Painting (experiencing painting and drawing in the landscape!)

Woodburn Summer Reading Program — June 17. The Woodburn Public Library will host its annual summer reading program, inviting adults, teens and children to take part in challenges to earn prizes.

— Adults: Earn entries into the Summer Reading Raffle by completing reading activity cards or filling out book review forms. Names will be drawn for weekly prizes June 24 through July 22. In August, fill out a bingo card to enter the final raffle for the summer. The first 25 participants to register will receive a free book bag.

n Teens: The first 25 participants to register will receive a free book bag, and a book to take home and keep (while supplies last). Read and review books, fill out activity sheets, and attend programs to earn prizes! In August, fill out a bingo card to enter the final raffle for the summer.

— Children: When you sign up, you will receive a book of your choice and a game board. When you complete the game board, you can win prizes, like slime or coloring books.

Gervais Bike Rodeo — 4-6 p.m. Thursday, June 20. Come out to Gervais Elementary School for the annual community bike rodeo.

Gervais Class Reunion — 5 p.m. Saturday, June 22. The Gervais High School 1962-1982 Class Reunion will be held at Vanderbeck Valley Farm in Mount Angel. Cost is $10. RSVP to Frank Slyter at P.O. Box 21, Gervais, OR, 97026.
