A pickup truck pulling a boat trailer caught fire near the Brooks-Gervais exit on I-5 Sunday

COURTESY OF MARION COUNTY FIRE DISTRICT NO. 1 - Marion County Fire District No. 1 and ODOT emergency personnel responded to a fire on I-5 near exit 263 Sunday.Firefighters were dispatched to the Brooks-Gervais exit on I-5 Sunday evening after multiple reports of a fire coming from a northbound pickup truck.

Marion County Fire District No. 1 responded to the call at about 7:38 p.m. to discover a full sized pickup truck on fire in the right shoulder. The truck had been pulling a trailer with a boat which had been unhitched from the vehicle before firefighters arrived.

MCFD reported a smoke column visible from two miles away, prompting the dispatch of a water tanker to the scene. Oregon Department of Transportation also dispatched emergency response personnel to the incident. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly, but the truck appeared to sustain considerable damage.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is believed to be a mechanical malfunction.
