Pedestrian hospitalized; driver of vehicle cited for DUII after failing field sobriety test

PMG FILE PHOTO - Police responseAn injured pedestrian was taken to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Mount Angel during Oktoberfest celebrations.

Oregon State Police responded to the incident, which occurred at around 10:57 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, on State Highway 214, milepost 47, in Mount Angel.

Responders said Kyle Thomas Atkinson, 25, of Salem crossing the street when he was struck by a Jeep Wrangler in the north bound lane driven by Nancy Marlene Kuhns, 64, of Portland.

OSP spokesman Capt. Timothy Fox reported that Atkinson was transported to Salem Hospital with a "visible injury." Fox also noted that Kuhns admitted to drinking and consented to taking a field sobriety test. She was transported to Silverton Police Department where the test was administered.

The sobriety test indicated that Kuhns' blood alcohol content with 0.9%. She was cited for DUII and released. Her vehicle was towed by Premier Towing.

The investigation is ongoing.
