French Prairie Lions begin toy drive
The French Prairie Lions Club has begun distributing toy collection boxes for this year's Love Santa program in north Marion County.
Boxes will be distributed in Donald, Aurora and Hubbard through the rest of October and all of November, according to Lions Club Project Chair Jim Jaggers.
"Our goal is to gather more than the 800 toys we collected last year," Jaggers said of the club's work. "We have some great partners — both the Hubbard and Aurora fire districts, and the Dollar General store in Hubbard are co-sponsoring and will be having a special toy sale to help the project."
Other locations include the White Rabbit Bakery and Filberts Farmhouse Kitchen in Aurora, and the Donald Cafe.
"We want to especially thank Mrs. McElligott's fifth-grade class at North Marion Intermediate School for decorating the boxes, " he said.
French Prairie Lions just finished free eye screening at North Marion primary, intermediate, and middle schools. Screening at the high school is being planned.
Lions Clubs around the world are noted for providing free sight and hearing care. Lions in Oregon can provide additional sight and hearing care, including surgery, if needed.
