The 9th Annual Friends of the Gervais FFA Alumni Auction and Social Banquet will take place beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Mount Angel Convention Center, 210 Monroe St., Mount Angel.

Friends of the Gervais FFA are currently seeking tax-deductible donations of goods, services, vacation trips or other support in advance of the event.

The theme for this year's auction is "Building on Success."

Gervais FFA advisor Megan Dilson said Friends have realized a wonderful structure in recent years, and now the aim is to grow the group's facilities to allow for more hands-on learning opportunities.

"The plan is to build more fencing around the barn so we can house more livestock projects for our students and add drip line irrigation to the greenhouse," Dilson noted. "Agriculture is an all-inclusive class, and by continually improving our facilities we are making it a safer and more hands-on learning environment for our students."

Those goals build on Gervais FFA's recent successes as it strives to support agriculture at the grassroots level. Dilson said last year the group completed cementing the greenhouse and installed a small walkway by dint of generous donations and banquet ticket sales.

"Aside from our goal, we raise money for our scholarship program and for mini projects to finish around our livestock barn," Dilson said. "FFA is a wonderful youth leadership organization that teaches students premier leadership, personal growth, and career success. We continue to build our program on that model and enjoy expanding our options for our students."

Beyond donating, or even in lieu of it, attending the banquet dinner and auction also benefits the young ag students.COURTESY OF GERVAIS FFA - Last years Friends of Gervais FFA event enabled to group to furnish a cement base to its greenhouse, a small walkway and supported scholarship programs and mini projects around the FFA barn.

"We always have people come back each year just because they have so much fun supporting our FFA program," Dilson said, adding "and who can refuse an open bar and nice dinner?"

In addition to the open bar, the dinner is catered by the Wooden Nickel, beginning at 6 p.m. Cost is $500 for a table seating 8 guests; half a table is $250 and individual seats are $65 each.
