Crews respond to a fatal, two-vehicle crash on Highway 551, north of Aurora and south of I-5

COURTESY OF THE CLACKAMAS COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE - A two-vehicle crash just after midnight Wednesday resulted in one fatality and the closure of Highway 551 north of Aurora.A Woodburn woman was killed and a Beavercreek woman hospitalized after an early Wednesday morning crash on Highway 551 north of Aurora and south of I-5.

A preliminary investigation by Oregon State Police indicates that Kelsie Martin, 29, of Beavercreek was driving northbound in a Toyota Camry on Highway 551 when for unknown reasons her vehicle collided head on with a southbound Toyota Prius operated by Stephanie Patricio, 33, of Woodburn.

Patricio sustained fatal injuries at the scene. Martin sustained serious injuries and was transported by Life Flight to OHSU.

OSP suspect alcohol impairment by Martin could be a contributing factor. The investigation is ongoing.

OSP responded to the incident at around 12:30 a.m. about a mile from the highway's interchange with 1-5. Canby Police and Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies assisted, as did Aurora Fire, Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue, American Medical Response and Life Flight.

Oregon Department of Transportation closed the highway following the wreck, as the police conducted their investigation. It reopened later in the morning.
