A domestic violence call near downtown has escalated into a barricade situation Wednesday

Police detained a suspect who barricaded himself inside his Woodburn home Wednesday afternoon.

Woodburn Police responded to a domestic violence call from a resident in the 100 block of Oswald Street, not far from the Woodburn branch of Chemeketa Community College near downtown.

WPD spokesman Tommy Moore said the suspect, Samson Gabriel Hinsvark, 39, barricaded himself inside the residence. After several hours of trying to negotiate with Hinsvark, he was arrested and taken into custody by the Marion County SWAT squad.

Hinsvark is being charged with strangulation, assault IV, menacing, reckless endangering, and first-degree attempted arson.

Moore noted that there were three others in the home, none of whom reported any injuries.

Doud Street between Lincoln and Young streets was closed off, as was Oswald and Tooze streets in the vicinity of the incident.

Marion County Sheriff's Office, Salem, Gervais and Aurora police also responded, along with fire and medical emergency crews and the city of Woodburn Public Works Department.
