The local American Legion Auxiliary group recently invited Sherie Moran's North Marion Middle School class to make flag stands as part of a patriotic, cross-class event that paid tribute to the American flag.
Those stands were used during a presentation to second-grade classes at North Marion Primary School in Aurora on Friday, Feb. 21.
Additionally, North Marion Drama Club members Jorden Bartelds, Ciara Deckert, Annabel Gamlem, Justin McConkey and Baylie Brotherton presented a short skit for the primary-school class, illustrating the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance. That skit was followed by a formal expression of allegiance.
"Then everyone stood to say the Pledge with their new understanding in their minds and hearts (and) the middle-school students handed out the flag stands they had made to each member of the second-grade class," Moran noted.
The American Legion also presented a small token to Moran for her 5th year supporting this annual event.
