Public safety crews closed 99E near Gervais for more than 4 hours Tuesday to investigate the scene

A Gervais man died in a Tuesday afternoon crash that closed Highway 99E for several hours.

Oregon State Police reported that at about 5:11 p.m. a Dodge Ram 2500 driven by Angel Hernandez-Cruz, 33, from Mount Angel was traveling north on 99E when it lost control and struck a Nissan pickuip driven by Luis Morales-Ramirez, 37, of Gervais. Morales-Ramirez sustained fatal injuries.

Hernandez-Cruz was arrested and taken to Marion County Jail where he was lodged on charges of manslaughter, driving uinder the influence of intoxicants and driving with a suspended license.

Highway 99E was closed for about 4 ½ hours while police investigated the scene. OSP was assisted by Woodburn Fire Department, Hubbard Police Department and Oregon Department of Transportation.


Highway 99E is closed near Gervais (4 miles south of Woodburn) following a multi-vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality.

The road will likely be closed for several hours for a law enforcement investigation and reconstruction.

A local detour has been set up using Howell Prairie Road and Gervais-Mt. Angel Highway. Travelers should avoid the area, use an alternative route or expect delays
