The travel restrictions to slow the spread of COVID-19 are announced before a noon press conference by Oregon Gov. Kate Brown.

KOIN 6 NEWS - Oregon Gov. Kate Brown at a recent press conference about COVID-19.Oregon, Washington and California announced a new travel advisory hours before Oregon Gov. Kate Brown is scheduled to hold a press conference on Friday.

In light of the concerning rise of coronavirus infections, the West Coast states have issued a travel advisory recommending 14-day quarantines for all inter-state and international travel, along with asking residents to stay local.

"COVID-19 does not stop at state lines," Brown said in the joint press release. "As hospitals across the West are stretched to capacity, we must take steps to ensure travelers are not bringing this disease home with them. If you do not need to travel, you shouldn't. This will be hard, especially with Thanksgiving around the corner. But the best way to keep your family safe is to stay close to home."

The three states' advisory also urges individuals to keep their interactions limited to their households.

At the Friday noon press conference, Gov. Brown will be joined by representatives from the Oregon Health Authority and Oregon Health & Science University. The announcement comes one day after a record-shattering 1,122 confirmed/presumed cases of COVID-19 reported Thursday by the Health Authority as the novel coronavirus spike continues to rage in the region and throughout the United States.
