Oregon Department of Transportation closed northbound lanes of I-5 closed Wednesday evening following fatal crash

All northbound lanes of Interstate 5 were closed six miles south of Woodburn --

milepost 266 -- following a fatal, multi-vehicle crash Wednesday evening.

Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to the crash at about 9:03 p.m. on Interstate 5 northbound.

OSP reported that preliminary investigation revealed a VW Passat, operated by Lucia Carballo Hernandez, 41, of Happy Valley, was northbound on I-5 at freeway speeds when it rear-ended a stopped or very slow moving Honda Accord operated by an adult male, who will be identified when appropriate.

The adult male was unresponsive when pulled from his vehicle.

An OSP Trooper and a bystander performed CPR on the adult male but he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Carballo Hernandez and her juvenile passenger suffered minor injuries and were not transported to a hospital.

OSP was assisted by the Marion County Fire Department, Keizer Fire Department and ODOT.
