Man dies in crash east of Woodburn
One person died and two others were transported by Life Flight in a crash that closed Highway 211 in the Elliott Prairie area east of Woodburn on Thursday, April 1.
Oregon State Police responded to the crash at about 12:30 p.m. at Highway 211 and Meridian Road. A preliminary investigative report indicates that a Ford Explorer driven by Richard Russell, 84, of Keizer turned left from Meridian Road onto 211 and pulled into the path of a semi truck driven by Gerald Fritz, 55, of Lebanon.
Russell suffered fatal injuries. There were two passengers in the Ford Explorer. Bonnie Magoon, 83, of Keizer was transported to Silverton Hospital then by Life Flight to Emanuel Hospital in Portland. Gary Gerstner, 63, of Garberville, California, was transported from the site of the crash to Emanuel Hospital. Fritz was not injured.
Highway 211 was closed Thursday afternoon as police investigated the crash. Monitor Fire Department and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted OSP.
