Scholarship applications sought
Marion County Farm Bureau announced that it is currently accepting applications for the Mary Petzel and Scott Miller memorial scholarships.
High school seniors and current college students are encouraged to apply. Scholarships range up to $2,500, and recipients will also receive a one-year supporting membership to the MCFB.
MCFB sources said one scholarship fund was created in honor of Mary Petzel, a long-time MCFB secretary who was recognized for her disciplined approach to all aspects of the bureau. She also served as a member of the Oregon Farm Bureau Women's Advisory Council, and her family continues to farm in the Brooks/Gervais area.
Another scholarship fund honors Scott Miller, a fourth-generation farmer from the Woodburn area.
Miller farmed row crops and fresh-market produce and was on the MCFB board of directors. He tragically died when the tractor he was driving was rear ended by a vehicle in 2014.
Applications must be submitted by May 1 and can found on the MCFB website, www.marioncofarm.com.
