After playing a condensed season this past spring due to COVID-19, local teams are back and raring to go.

PMG PHOTO: TANNER RUSS - Fall sports are back with a vengeance, and this week is the start of them all. St. Paul volleyball capped off a first day of play with victories over 1A Joseph and 2A Gervais.

The fall sports season kicked off Thursday, Aug. 26, with non-league play and a plethora of jamborees across all sports. St. Paul volleyball jumped out to a 2-0 start with wins over 1A Joseph and 2A Gervais; other teams have finished up their jamborees and play starts this week.

Football teams get back in the swing of things this Thursday, Sept. 2, and Friday, Sept. 3. On Thursday, Gervais hosts Lowell at 6 p.m. Friday sees Kennedy travel to Gaston, St. Paul travel to Lost River, North Marion travel to Seaside and Woodburn host Klamath Union. All Friday games will be played at 7 p.m.

Volleyball teams take to the court to battle it out this week. North Marion will play on the road against The Dalles at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2. Gervais will look for its first win of the season when it goes on the road to play 3A Willamina at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1. Kennedy volleyball will play three games during the week, first on Monday in a road game against Scio, then Wednesday at home against Clatskanie, and finally Thursday on the road against Toledo. St. Paul also has three games in the week in a much more condensed manner: Thursday, Sept. 2, they host C.S. Lewis Academy and Friday they travel to Dufur High School to face Dufur and Crane on the same day.

In boys soccer action, North Marion hosts Philomath at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, and Woodburn plays Putnam at home at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2.

The girls soccer teams get back in action as well, with North Marion's squad traveling to Philomath on Tuesday, Aug. 31.
