Woodburn Fire District will take part in the Fallen Firefighters National Memorial Weekend.

As dusk turns to dark during the first weekend of October, more than 400 iconic buildings, landmarks, fire departments and communities across the country will glow in respect to the fallen and their families for Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters.

Participants include One World Trade Center in New York City, the Wrigley Building in Chicago and the LAX Pylons in Los Angeles. From Oct. 1-14, in remembrance of these fallen firefighters, the city of Woodburn and the Woodburn Fire District will use red lights to illuminate the city's bridge that crosses Interstate 5.

"We are honored that the city of Woodburn will take part in Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters by adding their lights to this radiant nationwide tribute," Woodburn Fire District Chief Joe Budge said. "The lights shine bright, not only in memory of America's fallen heroes but in support of their loved ones."

During the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, 183 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2019 and 2020, and 32 firefighters who died in previous years will be honored. A bronze plaque bearing the names of the fallen will be officially added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial.
